A Quickie

I’ve been delinquent, but have not yet abandoned this little project of mine. Between work, wedding and apartment nonsense, time has been scarce.

We finally had someone approved for the apartment, but she was a moron. She submitted her docs on a Wednesday; the guy in the leasing office told her he was out Thursday and Friday, but that he’d start the process and should have an answer the following Monday. He also said he’d update her on the status Saturday when he was in the office. She stalked us via email Thursday and Friday asking if we had heard anything (knowing that the contact was out), and  told her a broker was pressuring them to sign at another building before they lost that apartment. On Friday, I asked her to give us 24 hours and assured her we’d get an update by noon on Saturday, and we did…he said it “looked good” and we’d have a firm answer on Monday. I told her this, and she told me she got scared and signed at another building the night before. They “really” wanted our place so they were going to try and get out of the other lease. She even offered the broker a fee to take our apartment, even though he had nothing to do with it. She dicked us around for a couple more days trying to get out of the lease, but ultimately couldn’t. For that, I’d just like to give a sincere thanks to Hiromi for screwing us over.

Of course, it was been a blessing in disguise as wife-to-be found a blog about the landlord at the place we loved and realized he biggest asshole in the history of mankind. We got out of that one, kept showing the place and found a qualified couple that signed a lease earlier this week. We saw some more apartments over the weekend and found a great place. It’s about 2 blocks from the loft we liked with shmucky the owner, applied and approved in about an hour and will be moving to Brooklyn on June 27th. It’s a great first-floor space…a converted storefront with a nice layout, two bedrooms and an amazing little backyard (I will become the Grill Master). It’s also a few hundred dollars cheaper than the loft and right on one of the main streets in Carroll Gardens, a block from the train. Even better, it apparently gets FiOS (we won’t be stuck with Time Warner, thankfully) and it’s right across the street from the new Treats Truck Stop…I wonder if I can sell Kim my cake balls.
